I received my Master’s degree in counseling from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Before pursuing my counseling degree, I worked in commercial interior design in North Carolina and Florida. Prior to joining Veritas, I worked for a psychiatrist doing intake and processing of patients and as a counselor in St. Louis. While there, I led groups focused on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and I worked with spouses of those struggling with sexual addiction. I have more than 10 years experience working with adolescents and adults in camp, youth ministry, and counseling settings.
My desire is to journey alongside adolescents (age 12 and up) and adults as they wrestle with the hard places and times in life. The love for creativity and beauty that goes into interior design is the same passion I have for true healing that is possible in the counseling room. It is my privilege to honor the dignity in each person who bravely walks the journey of the healing process.
Areas of focus:
Depression & Anxiety
Grief and loss
Victims of abuse (past and present)
Betrayal due to sexual addiction or infidelity
Church and para-church staff and pastors
How did I get from interior design to counseling? Well, to be honest, it was by way of sitting on the couch in a counselor’s office. It was in that sacred place that I experienced the unconditional love and patience of my God who fights for me and calls me beloved. Through those experiences, I was given a place to grieve openly. I also learned how my defenses and the lies I struggle with believing are some of the things that keep me from experiencing real connection and intimacy with God and others. It always seems to be the sorrows, the pain, and the losses that either draw us nearer to God, or keep us running, hiding, or numbing the pain.
I’ve been married to my husband for 14 years and have four energetic kids. I grew up in the Baton Rouge area, but have not lived here for the past 15 years. I’ve loved becoming reacquainted with authentic South Louisiana cuisine again and being near family!
I’m being supervised by Vicky Benton, LPC (License #1640)
